Denver Referred Question 2N: Cleaning up rules around rezoning protest petitions

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 00:10:01 GMT

The ballot question:Shall the Charter of the City and County of Denver be amended to clarify City Council’s authority regarding zone districts and to require that zoning protests can only be initiated by property owners in Denver? What it does:This ballot question seeks to clarify specific sections of the city’s charter where it deals with zoning regulations. Specifically, it addresses protest petitions for rezoning applications.Protest petitions allow property owners to create a higher bar for the City Council to approve a rezoning application. If a protest petition is signed by enough property owners either within or adjacent to the boundaries of an area that is being considered for rezoning, that petition triggers a super-majority vote. That means 10 of the council’s 13 members must vote to approve the application to pass it instead of just a simple majority of seven or more yes votes.Opponents to the Park Hill golf course rezoning turned in a protest petition with int...

He called on Congress to grant the FDIC those powers after the failures of Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank sent shockwaves through the global banking industry.“Strengthening accountability is an important deterrent to prevent mismanagement in the future,” Biden said in a statement. “Congress must act to impose tougher penalties for senior bank executives whose mismanagement contributed to their...

Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes’ bid to stay out of prison past her scheduled April 27 incarceration date remains in play after her judge said Friday he would not issue an order until early next month.Holmes, convicted of felony fraud in connection with her now-defunct Palo Alto blood-testing startup, has asked Judge Edward Davila to let her remain free on bail until her appeal is concluded, which could take months. After hearing arguments into restitution, Davila noted that he expected he would issue rulings on both matters the first week of April.Holmes, ...
