Research cited by the district shows later start times for secondary schools better align with teens’ unique sleep needs.Come 2024, Stillwater Area High School could start at 8:40 a.m., an hour later than this school year. Middle schools could start at 8:50 a.m., an hour later than this school year. Elementary schools could start at 7:40 a.m., an hour earlier.“We have been looking at ways to improve student achievement and address student and staff mental health concerns, and this is one of the ways that we feel we could make a difference,” said Carissa Keister, the district’s chief of staff and communications director. “We have ...Women’s basketball: Iowa State hands St. Thomas 85-44 loss at Schoenecker Arena

St. Thomas women’s basketball coach Ruth Sinn knew there were going to be games like Wednesday night’s loss to the Iowa State Cyclones at Schoenecker Arena as the program continues transitioning to the Division I level. To be exact, there have now been three of them, as the Tommies equaled their largest margin of defeat in the Division I era in an 85-44 loss to the Cyclones. The Tommies lost by 41 to South Dakota State on a pair of occasions last season. They opened this season with a 25-point loss to Drake.“If you look at our schedule, we’ve taken our schedule a step up this past year,” Sinn said. “It’s because we think we’re ready. Now, there’s moments in the game that you saw that maybe we’re not ready.“But we want to learn and we want to grow. And I think our young ladies having the daringness to be able to find out what that next step is, and what we have to do, is going to help us in the long run. Now it’s the next step. How do we respond from this? All of these nonconference ga...Potentially rabid fisher attacks parkgoers

ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. – DNA is key in several recent crime mysteries that police in St. Charles County claim to have solved. One case, involving a suspect’s saliva, was identified faster than one prosecutor says he’s ever seen. The St. Charles County Police Department Criminalistics Laboratory identified DNA that police say solved a burglary mystery in record time. Forensic scientists examined an iced tea bottle believed to be left behind by a burglary suspect in the victim’s backyard in O’Fallon, Missouri. Lab Director Bryan Hampton agreed with the investigating officer’s hunch.“Out of all the items we received in this particular case, that one rose to the top,” he said.Hampton put a rush on testing due to the likelihood of solving a case. In less than 30 days, the lab identified a suspected serial burglar. He's since been charged by St. Charles County Prosecutor Joe McCulloch.“It leads us to much more important things, that allows us to follow up once we identify a suspect like t...No. 20 CSU Rams take down CU Buffs for first time since 2017, improve to 7-0

FORT COLLINS — After Niko Medved’s CSU Rams stormed the Buffs, CSU fans stormed the court. And why the heck not? The Rammies haven’t been ranked this early in a long, long time. And if Wednesday night at Moby Arena was any indication, they don’t plan on leaving the polls anytime soon.Behind 20 points from senior point guard Isaiah Stevens, CSU held off the rival CU Buffs at Moby Arena on Wednesday night, 88-83, to improve to 7-0 on the young season while continuing to add to what’s becoming an impressive NCAA Tournament resume. It was the Rams’ first victory over the big-brother Buffs on the men’s hardwood since December 2017, and just the program’s third over CU coach Tad Boyle’s Buffs at home since 2011.“That was probably one of the last things I had left on my bucket list,” said Stevens, who returned for his fifth season after helping to lead the Rams to the NCAA tourney two years ago. “To be able to get one in my la...Kiszla: Jamal Murray’s return reminds NBA why it’s overdue to give him All-Star recognition

There’s no longer any question the NBA is overdue in recognizing Nuggets guard Jamal Murray as an All-Star, and all the proof we needed was for him to sit on his fanny. With Murray nursing an injured hamstring for nearly a month, the defending champions limped along with a 6-5 record, looking more vulnerable than unstoppable. With Murray lacing up his blue sneakers Wednesday night for a triumphant return to action, the Nuggets again looked like the most unstoppable offensive force in basketball, rolling to a 134-124 victory against Houston.Consider it a lesson learned about the fragile nature of building a dynasty. No basketball player on the planet can do the Joker things that Denver center Nikola Jokic does. But the Nuggets are not the reigning league champs without Murray, who averaged 26.1 points and 7.1 assists in last season’s playoffs. They would not have rolled to the first victory parade in franchise history, fashioning a sweet 16-4 record along the way, without Mur...Jamal Murray returns, Michael Porter Jr. stars as Nuggets rip Rockets

When the Nuggets’ starting lineup was introduced Wednesday night, the gravel-voiced public address announcer at Ball Arena screeched: “He’s back!”Taking his cue, guard Jamal Murray, who missed 11 games because of a strained left hamstring, pumped his fist in the air as the fans serenaded him with cheers. And while Murray was the main attraction in Denver’s 134-124 cruiser over Houston, it was Michael Porter Jr. who hogged the spotlight.Porter was sensational, especially in the first half as the Nuggets took a 76-59 lead into the locker room. He scored 23 points, making 8 of 10 shots and draining 6 of 7 shots from 3-point range. Porter finished with 30 points on 11-of-17 shooting (7 for 12 on 3-pointers) and added 10 rebounds and five assists. When the Rockets whittled Denver’s lead to 103-93 late in the third quarter, it was Porter who answered with an off-balance 3-pointer from the top of the key to snuff out the Rockets’ rally.Denver center Nikola Jokic did w...Denver police release body camera footage of man who died after arrest
